A Local Defence Unit (LDU) officer in Sembabule district has survived being lynched after he was caught breaking into a house.
The officer only identified as Mubarak is a resident of Kyakacunda, Lwemiyaga Sub County, Ssembabule district reportedly broke into Amon Twesigye’s house and stole 100, 000 shillings.
However, before Mubarak could get away, Twesigye returned home unexpected from his garden and found him in the process of sneaking away.
Twesigye made an alarm that attracted his neighbours who came to the scene and started beating up Mubarak.
Under beatings and interrogation, Mubarak further confessed to having been involved in several robberies. He admitted to have been behind the theft of 70, 000 shillings from Ponsiano Kasozi’s house, another resident.
Southern Region Police Spokesperson Noah Sserunjojji says that police managed to save Mubarak from the angry mob though he had sustained severe injuries.
Sserunjojji condemned the mob justice action and urged residents to always let the police apprehend such suspects and try them.
Mubarak was taken to hospital to receive treatment and will thereafter face charges of theft.
