The Member of Parliament for Kilak County in Amuru district, Gilbert Olanya has urged the police in Amuru district to avoid forceful means of evacuating the victims of floods in Elegu trading centre.
Oulanya’s appeal comes at a time when the Amuru district security officials told the traders in Elegu to relocate to Bibya trading centre where there is no flooding.
Olanya argues that government should provide tents and other reliefs before the traders relocate to Bibya.
“They cannot relocate to Bibya before they are given tents and other reliefs because they will suffer more”, Olanya argues.
Olanya thinks that the traders and other local residents should be helped by the Ministry in charge.
The traders have also written to the Office of the Prime Minister to explain why they cannot relocate to Bibya trading centre.
In their plea, the traders argued that they have already bought land and built houses and that they cannot leave it.
They also complained that it could be a ploy for the government to take their land.
Over 1,000 traders and local residents are affected by floods which come as a result of Unyama river bursting its banks.
