The proposal to increase tax on alcohol has been dropped while the water levy as proposed in the 2013/14 FY budget is to be maintained.
Finance minister Maria Kiwanuka had proposed to increase excise duty from 70 per cent to 140 per cent at importation. But the minister now says the rate will be reduced to 100 per cent or Shs2,500 per litre.
However, new rates proposed to be levied on water, paraffin, petrol, diesel, wheat, mobile money transactions, among others, remain untouched following an agreement reached with MPs on the House Finance Committee.
