Residents of Adacaar Village in Katakwi district were shocked on Monday upon the discovery of a human skull near Adacaar Primary school. The skull that is said to be of a child is suspected to have been abandoned by ritualists before accomplishing their mission.
According to the police in the area, the skull appeared old and could have lain on the ground for several years before being unearthed by farmers in the area.
“We were contacted by the villagers and we went and picked it. We will forward it to our medical team in order to ascertain whether it is an adult’s or a child’s skull,” Mr Joseph Okuny, the Assistant OC CID said.
However, the residents believe that the skull could be that of Sarah Akello, a girl who disappeared five years ago from the same school and was never found. They also say that the girl could have been murdered in a ritual and her head abandoned in the neighborhood.
In response, the police have said that investigations into the matter were still ongoing and more would be done to ascertain the truth.
“From our perception, this skull looks to be that of an adult and the person could have a victim of the 1983-1993 insurgency in Teso,” Mr Okuny Said.
