The Gulu district Chairman, Martin Ojara Mapenduzi is disturbed by the overwhelming number of beggars who come to his office.
Ojara while speaking to a number of Scholars in Gulu town on Thursday said that 30 percent of the visitors in his office are beggars who either want money or food.
Ojara blamed it to the over 20 years of LRA Insurgency which has glued people to begging.
“It has become a culture for Acholi now to beg for food and money. We must stop this dependency syndromes before it is too late”, Ojara cautioned.
Ojara also called on the community to work hard so that they may drive away the biting poverty from their homes.
“They think that since I am the district Chairman for Gulu therefore I should give them money or food. And if I say I do not have they become annoyed with me”, Ojara explained.
