The Gulu district Chairman LC 5, Martin Ojara Mapenduzi is disturbed by what he called increasing drinking habits of school children in Gulu district.
Ojara was speaking during training for Secondary school leaders at Gulu District Council Hall on Saturday.
Ojara said that most of the secondary school children in Gulu are becoming drunkards.
“The school administrators and school leaders must check such behaviors as soon as possible because in a few years we shall have only drunkards in the region”, Mapenduzi explained.
He added that most of the students take alcohol during inter-school sports competitions and later commit crimes.
“We had a sports competition in Pece stadium and a section of students looted snacks from the road side in Olayo-ilong village. They forget they are looting from poor parents. How about if they were your mothers. How would you feel”, Mapenduzi asked.
Churchill Lacere Achire, the chairperson for the head teachers in Gulu who is also the head teacher for Sir Samuel Baker Secondary school in Gulu condemned the act.
Lacere called on the schools to take up Patriotism trainings in their school so that they may have love for their country.
“I call upon such schools to get Patriotism training so that such habits are eliminated”, Lacere said.
