The construction of one stop border posts at Malaba and Busia boarders is set to commence on August 28, government has disclosed. The shs31.6 billion projects will constructed jointly by M/S Cementers Uganda Limited and another company from Kenya whose identity hasn’t yet been disclosed.
Reports obtained by Uganda Picks have revealed that the projects will be funded by a loan from the World Bank and a grant from Trade Mark East Africa together with The Government of Uganda under the trade and transport facilitation project.
While handing over the sites to the contractor recently, Mr Benon Kajuna, a commissioner for policy and planning who represented the permanent secretary said the World Bank had financed the Malaba construction to the tune of shs15.71 billion while Busia was financed by Trade Mark East Africa at shs15.89 billion.
The projects will also undertake to construct modern immigration facilities, plant and animal health facilities and security facilities for cross border operations and commercial services.
According to The commissioner Customs, Mr. Richard Kamajugo there is need for the contractors to work day and night such that project is completed within the specified timeframe.
