The minister of finance Maria Kiwanuka has confirmed that government losses close to shs70b to pay ghost workers.
She says that, this financial year, government is to carry out a general audit in the public service to clear out ghost workers in the several government ministries especially the health service sector.
Maria Kiwanuka revealed this during her interaction with the parliamentary committee on health.
Kiwanuka says they have engaged the auditor general to carry out a comprehensive 100% audit on government departments and hear that people have not received their salary yet the money was realized to them.
Kiwanuka also told the committee that people who are going to be studying using the student’s loan scheme and other government scholar ships will be given government jobs to pay up the loans so as the country benefits like it’s done in other countries like South Africa.
