Fisher men on Lake Victoria yesterday accused factories near the Lake Victoria of polluting the lake.
The fishermen revealed this while appearing before parliamentary committee on Agriculture chaired by Kakuuto county MP Mathias Kasamba.
The fishermen representatives under the Association of fishers and lake users in Uganda told the MPs that, the investors are using cages that have dangerous chemicals which pollutes both the Lake and environment.
The deputy secretary general of this association Kakanga Patrick from Buvuma said that closing Lake Victoria for six months will not be a solution to illegal fishing as the ministry of fisheries suggests.
Kakanga adds that what should be done now is to close some parts of the lake where there is illegal fishing than suspending all fishing activities.
The ministry of Fisheries plans to suspend all fishing activities on Lake Victoria for Six months as the way to stop illegal fishing.
