Officials from the Ministry of Education and Sports have denied receiving applications from students who want to acquire loans under the Student’s Loan Scheme.
The officials had appeared before the education committee to respond to the MPs concerns on the scheme.
The director higher technical vocational education and training, Elizabeth Gabona said that the ministry has not yet called for applications and therefore no application has been received.
She however noted that the ministry has come up with a draft application form as part and partial of the preparation for the scheme.
“If it’s true that you have started receiving applications from students to acquire loans, we shall not recommend parliament to enact this law because there might be connivance between officials in the ministry to steal tax payer’s money” Said one of the committee members.
The MPs however warned the officials against doing anything that would promote inequality in the scheme and directed them to first wait for the law in order to go on with other processes.
