Cabinet is set to meet today over the reopening of Makerere University.
The meeting to be chaired Prime Minister Amama Mbabazi, is expected to determine if Makerere University will reopen before the lecturers’ demands are met or not.
It comes after two weeks, the deadline that was set by the Education Ministry for the public University to be reopened ,though the lecturers have no intention of getting back to work if their demand of salary increment is not met.
As a way of persuading the lecturers to end the strike, government proposed a salary increment of 20% last week but it was rejected.
The lecturers have insisted on the 100% salary increment and without which they have vowed to push on the strike.
The angry lectures have also scoffed at the government’s threats of firing those who will continue resisting.
