Members of the Ugandan Parliament from Buganda Region on Monday split over apologizing to president Museveni on what happened during the Kabaka’s 20th anniversary.
The caucus boss Godfrey Kiwanda and his Vice Betty Nambooze exchanged words on Mengo Affairs with Hon Namboze stressing that they never sat as a caucus to issue an apology on the issue of the youth who booed president Museveni at the occasion.
While speaking to news reporters at parliament, the caucus boss Godfrey Kiwanda condemned the youth in Buganda for booing president Museveni when he joined Buganda to celebrate the Kabaka’s 20th coronation Anniversary.
“Booing the president expressed bad behaviors from the youth in Buganda because president Museveni had joined the coronation Anniversary as a friend to Buganda because Kabaka is for all people leaving in Buganda. I urge the youth in Buganda to be tolerant and respect all visitors as the cultures of Buganda demand” Kiwanda noted.
“I also condemn such behaviors and play that this should not happen again” He added.
He also apologized to the president for what happened to him during the celebrations to mark the 20th coronation Anniversary for Kabaka Mutebi. On behalf of the Buganda caucus executive, I would like a convey our sincere apology to the president and urge all Buganda youth to respect Kabaka visitors because president Museveni was invited by Kabaka” Kiwanda said
He further asked all people from Buganda to support the king on what he has achieved so far.
Meanwhile the Vice chairperson of Buganda caucus in parliament Betty Nambooze attacked Kiwanda for condemning the behaviors of the Buganda youth.
“We have never sat as Buganda caucus executive to issue that apology. Its Kiwanda’s apology not executive decision. Kiwanda doesn’t have powers to talk about Mengo matters because we (MPs) were visitors at that event of which we don’t have mandate to apologize on behalf of Buganda. Mengo has officials who can speak about that matter but not Buganda caucus. It’s a personal apology as Mityana north MP but not Buganda caucus and as the caucus executive we dismiss that apology because we never sat over that matter.” Nambooze noted.
There is no any reason to why we have to apologize because the youth were expressing their grievances to the president. “I support the youth for what they did to boo the president because he was not invited, he just sneaked in the event” Nambooze said.
President Museveni was boo by the youth of Buganda at the 20th coronation Anniversary of Kabaka Muwenda Mutebi 2 held at Mengo on 3rd August this year.
