The police in Kaberamaido district have arrested and detained a Junior Lay Leader at Abedi Church of Uganda for stabbing and seriously injuring a Senior Lay Leader over allegations that the victim was encroaching on his wife. Mr John Eriau stabbed Benard Engeu after he discovered that his boss at the church had begun encroaching on his wife.
Eriau said that he began getting suspicious when Engeu started giving his wife gifts that ranged from headscarves, bracelets and perfumes. According to testimonies obtained from Kaberamaido police station, the suspect on that fateful day allegedly caught Engeu in his house with his wife. This prompted him to pick a knife and injure the victim.
However, the victim has denied all these allegations and allegedly claimed that he was on his pastoral duty. He says that he is being defamed for no reason.
The leader of the Christians’ assembly in the church, Mr Raymond Ekou, said that although the suspect had been suspicious, the action of response he took was not Christian and orderly.
