The New York Red Bulls have signed Uganda’s defender Ibrahim Sekagya .The former Cranes captain was signed on Wednesday after spending six years with Red Bull Salzburg.
The 32-year-old center back had been training with New York for the past few weeks and ultimately decided to sign with the team that had been pursuing him since this past winter so as to help them in their efforts to win a championship.
“I want the challenge in my career and this is one,” Sekagya told reporters after practice on Thursday
The contract is expected to place him among the top earners at the club.
Sekagya captained Uganda in qualifiers for the 2006 and 2010 World Cups, and several Nations Cp campaigns until 2012 when he retired.
Sekagya has played mostly as a central defender with Red Bull Salzburg of the Austrian Bundesliga from 2007 through the finish of the club’s most recent season. He had six goals in 165 games for a team that won three titles during his stay.
