A local cathedral in Cornwall ,United Kingdom has opened a Christmas shop ,though the festive season is over five month ahead .

The shop located in the Truro shopping centre  sells a number of festive items, including advent calendars and nativity models.

The Truro Dean, The Very Reverend Roger Bush, admitted some people thought it was strange to open up a Christmas store so early but said he hoped the shop could take advantage of the recent heat wave.

“Some people will find this a difficult decision to understand. But the cathedral has to generate profits from its commercial arm – the shop and the restaurant – in order to help finance its core activities of worship, education and outreach and to help keep this beautiful building open.” He said

The cathedral has previously sold Christmas goods from the cathedral and directors say there is a real demand even in the middle of summer.

Reverend Bush, who officially opened the shop, hit back at claims the church was exploiting Christmas in order to make money but said they had to take care when communicating their message.
