Hoima Municipality MP,Henry Muganwa Kajura has announced his interest in retiring from elective politics soon,perhaps ,2016 .
Mr Kajura who was confronted by a group of journalists at parliament on Wednesday over his competence in relation to age told journalists that he is still active and efficient despite his age .Mr Kajura will be clocking 80 years next year.
He also told the scribes that he has already notified his constituents to search for a suitable replacement for him to represent Hoima municipality.Sources in Hoima district say people are already eying Moses Byaruhanga ,president Museveni’s advisor on Political Affairs as a suitable replacement for Mr .Kajura.
Henry Kajura is the Second Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Public Service in the Cabinet of Uganda.His long career as a public servant goes back to 1966 when he worked as the Deputy General Manager in Uganda’s central bank, the Bank of Uganda, serving in that capacity until 1967. Between 1967 and 1973, he served as Secretary of the East African Development Bank.
From 1973 until 1978, he served as the Chairman and Managing Director of Uganda Commercial Bank, the precursor to Stanbic Bank (Uganda) Limited. He then served as Governor of the Bank of Uganda from 1978 until 1979. During the same period, he concurrently served as a Non Executive Director of the East African Development Bank. Kajura has been a member of Uganda’s Cabinet, continuously since 1989 and served in many ministerial positions.
The journalists attack on Kajura came amidst controversy over raising the age limit of the Chief Justice .
