10 of the 120 Gulu main market Fish mongers on Monday morning received their cows bought from their own village savings.
The fish mongers in their Village savings group which was formed in 2012 have so far saved 50 Million shillings in the last one year.
Santa Obwoya, their chairperson while delivering the cows to the 10 vendors said that the savings idea was initiated by a local Musician-Jennifer Lawala in 2012.
“Jennifer Lawala gave the group Shs 500,000 and many of the women borrowed the money and paid back with interest and now we have Shs 50m in our account”.
Martin Ojara Mapenduzi, the Gulu district LC 5 Chairman who officiated the function on Monday morning encouraged the fish mongers to keep well their savings.
“I would like to encourage you to keep your savings well and buy a truck which will be used for transporting your fish from the lakes”, Ojara said.
