Police have teargassed traders in Kikuubo who had gathered to welcome Col Kizza Besigye as he had gone shopping.

Due to the excitement the traders had for Besigye they started gathering  and following him, with chantings and giving him free items.

Chaos erupted which forced the police to intervene and fired tear gas to disperse the crowd and later on arrested Besigye.

Relatedly,¬† there is heavy deployment at Kisekka market as the traders tried to demonstrate opposing the Police’s blocking of Lord Mayor’s rally in which he was to address them before heading to Fairways hotel where he is supposed to appear before the tribunal.

The traders say that they were prepared for the Lord Mayor’s speech but they were shocked to know that the police had rounded off his home and had escorted him to the fairways hotel without allowing him to talk to them.

Police says they will still remain heavily deployed until when the situation normalizes.
