Lyantonde police are holding a UPDF soldier accused of knocking dead two people while drunk.
The suspect is Alex Iga, who is attached to Bombo Army barracks.
It is alleged that Iga knocked dead two people who were riding on a motorcycle while driving his Toyota Corona saloon car registration number UAS-163D along Kooki road 1km away from Lyantonde town.
Lyantonde Deputy Traffic Officer Robert Begumisa, says Iga indulged in excessive alcohol consumption to celebrate the purchase of his new vehicle.
Begumisa says the soldier was tested and found with an alcoholic content of 070.6 UG/100ML after he spent his day at Advena bar in Lyantonde town where he drunk alcohol with his friends.
He explains that shortly after leaving the bar, Iga jumped in his vehicle and drove off.
He knocked dead Siraje Kanwagi, a motor cycle driver and his passenger Scovia Tomusange, a resident of Biwolobo village in Lyatonde Sub County.
The bodies of the deceased were handed over to Lyantonde hospital mortuary for postmortem.
Begumisa says the soldier face charges of murder and reckless driving.
He says the accused will be produced in court once investigations are complete.
