One person has been shot dead by armed thugs who undressed over 50 passengers on a Jaguar bus and robbed them of their property worth millions of shillings.
The incident, according to first respondents, happened at around 4am Wednesday morning.
Armed thugs waylaid a Jaguar Bus registration number UAN 981J from Rwanda to Kampala at Kayabwe trading centre along Masaka-Kampala highway.
It is alleged that the masked thugs dressed in what looked like army uniform had parked a car carrier truck in the middle of the road, forcing the Jaguar bus to stop.
The driver of the bus Sirage Mubiru says the thugs forced him to open the door and ordered him to drive the bus towards Kituuntu swamp a few kilometres to Uganda Martyrs University-Nkozi off the main highway.
Mubiru says they ordered all of them to undress and started robbing everything from them.
He explains that one passenger identified only as Rukundo was shot dead for refusing to undress. Mubiru says the shooting of one of the passengers scared and shocked them all and many of them undressed and gave away all of their belongings including money.
Mubiru says after the robbery, the thugs loaded their loot onto their car carrier truck and speed off leaving them terrorized.
Central Region Police Spokesperson Phillip Mukasa, confirmed the incident saying by the time police reached the scene the thugs had long gone.
He says police have started taking statements from the affected passengers and drivers to possibly get clues on what direction the thugs took.
Mukasa also says police is yet to identify how much money was stolen from the passengers and how many of them were on board.
According to Mukasa, the body of the dead passenger has been taken to Nkozi Hospital for post-mortem.
Mukasa also says some of the passengers who included Rwandan traders have been allowed to proceed to Kampala.
