Paralympic, Oscar Pistorius is due back in court today, Tuesday 4th June 2013 for the alleged murder of his girlfriend, Reeva Steenkamp on Valentines day this year.
The double-amputee Olympian has been absent from the public eye since he was granted bail in February. He has been sighted twice since Feb. 22.
Over time, pictures of the bloodied bathroom where Pistorious killed Reeva were leaked leaving the public in shock over the images.
Pistorius will briefly appear today at Pretoria Magistrate’s Court where he was granted bail as a step toward the trial that will eventually decide if the 26-year-old Pistorius spends a minimum of 25 years in jail.
Pistorius will have to defend himself against a charge of premeditated murder. Pistorious believes, at the time of the murder, he was acting in self-defense. He believed that it was an intruder before he fired four shots through a bathroom door in his home with his licensed 9mm handgun killing Reeva. He has to also explain his point of view detailing everything that happened per minute by taking the stand and testifying at his trial and according to his explanation, a judge will pronounce him guilty or innocent.
South Africa does not have trial by jury.
