Kisekka Market has been closed after the stand-off with police which prompted the firing of tear gas and the arrest of former Forum for Democratic (FDC) leader, Dr. Kizza Besigye.

Traders were ordered out of the market as it was shut down by police. Military police has now taken over the market in a bid to keep calm in the city center.

Kisekka Market Closed as Military Police Takes OverAt Acacia Avenue and areas around Metropole Hotel, where the Tribunal meeting Lord Mayor Erias Lukwago is seated, heavy police deployment still remains despite the latter having fainted at shortly after arriving at the hotel. The head of the tribunal Justice Catherine Bamugemereire has adjourned the tribunal to allow the Lord Mayor time to recover.

At the stand-off with police, 2 people are said to have been injured in the protests and are currently being treated at Mulago Hospital. Other local media are putting the number at three people who are in critical condition as a result of the stand-off.
