President Yoweri Museveni has made major changes in the military, appointing the Commander of Land Forces, Lt. General Edward Katumba Wamala as Chief of Defence Forces (CDF).

Wamala replaces General Aronda Nyakairima who has been appointed Minister of Internal Affairs.

To complete the shake up at the top of the Uganda Peoples Defense Forces (UPDF) leadership, Museveni appointed Major General Charles Angina as deputy CDF, replacing Lt General Ivan Koreta. Until his new appointment, Angina has been Chief of Staff of Land Forces.

Other changes include Charles Angina who was promoted to the rank of Lt. Gen. and appointed Deputy CDF.Angina replaces Lt. Gen Ivan Koreta who now becomes an ambassador, while Maj. Gen Fred Mugisha assumes the new role of chief of National counter-terrorsim agency

Museveni also promoted his former aide Wilsom Mbadi to the rank of Maj. Gen and appointed him the new Joint Chief of Staff, as Maj. Gen. Charles Muhoozi takes over as the new land forces commander

Brig. Leopold Kyanda is the new chief of staff land forces while Col. Kanyesigye is the new 4th division comamnder. while brig. Turyagyenda was promoted to Maj. Gen and confirmed as the Air Force chief, according to the radio message sent to all army units
