In 2010,Indian military scientists were forced to examine a man who claims he last ate food and drunk water in 1940.Prahlad Jani, says has spent 72 years without eating food.
The 85 year old born Chunriwala Mataji in 1929 in Charada, Mehsana district says that the goddess Amba sustains him.
The yogi was observed by 30 medics in a hospital in the Indian state of Gujarat. He spent two weeks under constant surveillance in an area equipped with cameras and closed circuit television. During the 15-day period, Jani didn’t eat, drink or go to the toilet.
Doctors from India’s Defence Research Development Organisation wanted to get tips on how soldiers can be sustained in hard situations through Jani’s experience. They believed Mr Prahlad could teach them to help soldiers survive longer without food, or disaster victims to hang on until help arrives.
However ,Jani says goddess Amba sustains him.He believes that the goddess provides him a liquid sustenance or water, which drops down through a hole in his palate, allowing him to live without food or water.
Since the 1970s, Jani has lived as a hermit in a cave in the rainforest near the Gujarati temple of Ambaji, awakening at 4am each day and spending most of his time meditating.
At the age of 11, Jani underwent a religious experience and became a follower of the Hindu goddess Amba. From that time, he chose to dress as a female devotee of Amba.
