Lt. Gen. Katumba Wamala has been appointed as the new army chief replacing Gen. Aronda Nyakairima in the new cabinet reshuffle carried out by President Museveni.

Yesterday, Thursday 23rd, President Museveni carried out a cabinet reshuffle where notable changes took place among which are the minister of information, Mary Karooro Okurut appointed as the new Minister of Gender while Gen. Aronda was appointed as the minister of Internal affairs.

Katumba Wamala Appointed as the New Army ChiefA former policeman, Gen. Katumba was previously the Commander of Land Forces in the Uganda People’s Defense Force (UPDF) which made him the first Ugandan military officer to serve in that position since its creation in 2007.

Before being appointed as the Commander of Land Forces, Gen. Katumba was  the Inspector General of Police (IGP) of the Uganda Police Force from 2001 to 2005 before being replaced by Major General Kale Kayihura.

Gen. Katumba was the first active UPDF soldier to serve as the head of the Uganda Police Force.

Born 19 November 1956 in Bweeza, Kalangala District, Gen. Katumba is married and is a father of one son and five daughters.
