By Mildred Nambi

State minister for disaster preparedness relief and refugees has advised Kampala Capital city authority to relocate people from water ways in the city as mitigation against floods.

Adressing the press at Uganda Media Centre on Monday ,Minister Ecweru noted that it is unfortunate that unscrupulous individuals in the defunct Kampala City Council sold plots of lands to people in the water ways saying it is the major cause of floods.

He said people in areas around northern bypass in Kalerwe, Bwaise, and other surburbs such as Katwe, Ndeba and Kawempe among others should vacate the areas as they are prone to flooding.

He said warned that with the rains continuing to pound the floods are likely to wash away houses and property of all those staying in water ways and cause a disaster.

Meanwhile the commissioner for meteorology Michael Nkalubo has urged the public to check their roofing and electric installations to prevent short circuits and electric shocks as the rains intensify.
