On Thursday, women activists under Centre for Domestic Violence Prevention (CEDOVIP ) and other partners held a vigil for women who have succumbed to domestic violence.
The women lit fire at Kitante Primary School play ground from 4:30 PM and kicked off the event with plays depicting domestic violence.
Discussion of Marriage and Divorce bill took centre stage at the Vigil as activists called for religious leaders to stop being hypocritical about the clause on cohabitation but instead use their pulpits for the right reasons.
The various speakers argued that some of the women who are suffering in marriages can not leave just because bride price was paid for them. The added that most of the people in the country are cohabiting and failure to protect them in such marriages is just unfair.
The event was held on Thursday to allow the women move to the national women’s Day celebration in Nakasongola district.
