The police in Gulu have said that they have failed to investigate a case where a 37 year old woman who was allegedly  assaulted by a group of unknown men on Women’s Day on Friday because she is still lying unconscious.

The assaulted woman is in Gulu regional referral hospital where she was admitted on Saturday morning.

Addressing the press on Monday , the police officer in charge of crimes at Gulu central police station, James Asubo said the woman was picked up by police from Kabedo-Opong on Saturday morning after the police was alerted about the incident.

Asubo said the woman is reported to have been from a drinking joint where she is said to have spent the day celebrating women’s day and was returning home in a drunken state when the unknown thugs attacked her.

Asubo however said the police have not yet been able to identify the woman because she has been unconscious since Saturday adding that they have not yet began their investigations since they still have not yet recorded a statement from the victim.

Asubo however urges any member of the public who have information regarding the assault to report to the police to enable them with investigations.
