By Emmanuel Omona PaOkech

Village Health teams in Laroo Division have appealed to the government to give them Bicycles to ease their movements within the villages.

The Village health teams argue that they have been helping many patients in the villages but they lack transport to reach out to many other parts of the village.

They also note that they were performing tasks that are ordinarily meant to be performed by qualified medical personnel like doctors and physicians in the villages.

Christopher Omona, one of the village health teams in Laroo division says they would cover many villages if their transport was facilitated.

John Okwonga, the secretary for Health and Education when contacted said that there were bicycles distributed to Village health teams and wonders why not all the village health teams benefited.

He however promised to follow up the matter.

The concept of a “Village Health Team” that serves as a community’s initial point of contact for health became part of Uganda’s national health strategy in 2001.
