Village Health teams in Laroo Division have appealed to the government to give them bicycles to ease their movements within the villages.
The health teams argue that they have been helping many patients in the villages but they lack transport to reach out to many other parts of the village.
Christopher Omona, one of the village health teams in Laroo division told Uganda Picks that they would cover many villages if boosted with bicycles or other transport means.
John Okwonga, the secretary for Health and Education when contacted said that there were bicycles distributed to Village health teams and wonders why not all the village health team members have benefited.
He however promised to follow up the matter.
The team members revealed to Uganda Picks that were performing tasks that are ordinarily meant to be performed by qualified medical personnel like doctors and physicians in the villages.
The concept of a “Village Health Team” that serves as a community’s initial point of contact for health became part of Uganda’s national health strategy in 2001.
