Venezuelan government brought to light that their ill president, President Hugo Chavez’s health has worsened after he developed a new infections which has seen his breathing problems worsen.

In a statement read by the country’s Information Minister, Ernesto Villegas, government said that Chavez’s health was worsening. “Today there is a worsening of his respiratory function. Related to his depressed immune system, there is now a new, severe infection.”President Chavez is recovering from cancer surgery.

Chavez, 58, has been absent from the public eye since last year after undergoing a fourth operation since the disease was detected in 2011. However, two weeks ago, he made a surprise homecoming. A picture of him and his daughters was released showing he was recovering well in a military hospital, Caracas military hospital. “The president has been receiving high-impact chemotherapy, along with other complementary treatments … his general condition continues to be very delicate,” Villegas said.

“The commander-president remains clinging to Christ and to life, conscious of the difficulties that he is facing, and complying strictly with the program designed by his medical team,” he added.
