The conclave, the secret papal election begins tomorrow -Tuesday in the Sistine Chapel,CNN reports. The chapel has been closed to the public while Vatican staff have also prepared the vestry for the papal exercise.
The first public signs of preparations appeared over the weekend as workmen scaled the roof of the chapel on Saturday to install the chimney which will release the black or white smoke that signifies whether a new pope has been elected.
Black smoke signifies that no one has won. White smoke means a new pope has been chosen.
The decision will be made by cardinal-electors — the 115 cardinals of the church under the age of 80, who arrived in Vatican City from all across the world.
Cardinals have been meeting in daily sessions for the last week called General Congregations.
The election of the new Pope comes after the Resignation of Pope Benedict on February 28th,2013.
