Teacher under the Uganda national teachers union have asked  the ministry of public service, the ministry of education and sports and that of finance to  immediately come up and  explain why their  salaries were deducted.

The chairperson of the union, Expedite Kiseka says that teacher’s salaries were last month deducted by between shs50,000 to shs60,000 without an explanation from the line ministries.

Mr Kiseka told reporters at parliament  yesterday that in public service order, once a teacher salary is raised, it is not supposed to be reduced without any reason.

Kiseka added that 75% of teachers from both primary and secondary levels are all affected by the system. He further reiterated that all teachers under the Uganda national teachers union will convene at Buganda Road primary school to find a solution about the deduction of their money.

Meanwhile Kalungu West Mp Joseph Sewungu who is on front line of fighting for teacher’s matters in parliament said that the deduction of salaries have not only  affected  teachers but  also other civil servants like police and prison officers.

He said that police and prisons should this time join teachers to demonstrate over this issue.

“It’s very painful. We don’t know who is behind this system. We want the line ministries to come out and explain to  teachers. Gov’t has just increased salaries for the teachers but it’s very sad to hear that the money has also been deducted”Hon Sewungu noted

The MP  has also tasked  government to explain why teachers don’t get pay slips whenever they receive salaries.

“Over the years government  has not been  giving teachers pay slips which indicates how much they earn. We are going to fight for teachers in this country” He threatened
