The Speaker of Parliament Rebecca Kadaga has warned parents in Ngora district against early marriages .

Hon. Kadaga made this call during the Women’s Day celebrations for Ngora district.She said the only way women can enhance development is by stopping early marriages to secure a productive future for the children. She also expressed concern about the high levels of defilement in Ngora.

“Parents, please do not settle defilement cases yourselves at home. Report them to higher authorities for the children to get proper justice.” Kadaga appealed.

Meanwhile, at the Women’s Day celebrations for Busembatya district, the Speaker urged parents to enroll their children for technical and vocational studies.

Hon. Kadaga said the only way development can be realized is by engaging in self employment.

“When you study technical subjects and hand skills, you do not need to be given a job because you have the skills to create a job for yourself. But if you wait for someone to give you a job, then you are destined to remain low and not developed especially for the girl child”, she added.

Hon. Kadaga also encouraged the women to engage in income generating activities and participate in government programmes so as to develop. She promised that she would facilitate them to access loans from microfinance institutions to enable them do business that will improve their lively hoods.
