Today ,March 4th ,Google commemorated Mariam Makeba’s birthday with a her own Google doodle.

Miriam Makeba  nicknamed Mama Africa ,was born in Johannesburg on 4 March, 1932,she would have been 81 years today had she not died in 2008.

She was a Grammy Award-winning South African singer and civil rights activist.More special about her ,she liked  South Africa’s ‘father President ‘Nelson Mandela so much.Even when her passport to prevent her returning to her home from her travels overseas. She returned after the release of Nelson Mandela in 1990.

On his 70th Birthday she performed a special tribute for Mr. Nelson Mandela singing some of her most popular songs like “Pata Pata”, “Soweto Blues” and freedom songs from the era.

Makeba’s popular songs include Pata Pata    ,Malaika   ,Khawuleza    ,Mbube.

She performed with artists such as Harry Belafonte, Paul Simon and Hugh Masekela, her first husband.

In 1962, she performed at President John F Kennedy’s birthday party.

Makeba died in Italy in 2008 during a performance for Roberto Saviano.
