President Museveni with some female legislators have agreed on some clauses in marriage and Divorce Bill.Museveni met the female legislators at his country home in Rwakitura on Thursday.
According to the source that attended the meeting in Rwakitura, the two parties agreed on clauses like cohabitation, bride price and clause 155 which talks about the distribution of property.
The source told us that president Museveni told female MPs that the cohabitation part should be totally removed from the bill adding that those who want to cohabit should come up with their own different bill because cohabitation is not reorganized in marriage.
On the refund of bride price, the president said that no any man will claim for the refund of bride price if a woman has children, the president also said that if the woman has been in marriage for more than 10years, the refund of the bride price will not be allowed.
The president also said that if a man forces his wife to leave his home, the man shall not claim for the refund.
On clause 155 which talks about the distribution of properties, the president said that only properties that acquired during the marriage shall be distributed among the partners but those acquired before marriage shall not be shared.
Clause 155 (2) says that the distribution of properties shall be in equal shares but shall not be less than one third of the value of the jointly acquired property unless a spouse can prove that the other spouse should be given less than half.
The meeting was also attended by human rights activist Rodha Kalema, women lawyers and some few female legislators.
