Pope Francis is today going to be officially installed as the new Catholic Pope at St. Peter’s Square.
Pope Francis was elected pope after the papal conclave sat for a day. White smoke billowed out of the Celestine Chapel on Tuesday 12th March with Jorge Mario Bergoglio as the new pope. As the whole world waits to see history being made, Ugandapicks brings you the live updates of the event as it takes place.
7:00am – Crowds gather at St.Peter’s Square to await the installation of the pope. Thousands of people around the world, including several world leaders are expected to attend the ceremony.
10:00am – Zimbabwe President, Robert Mugabe arrives in italy ahead of the ceremony. He is under a travel ban from the European Union but The Vatican, as a free state is not bound by the EU bans.
10:50am – Pope Francis arrives at St. Peter’s Square and starts greeting the crowds before the inaugural mass.

11:19am – Pope Francis finishes to greet the crowd who have come to attend the inauguration. He is now putting on vestments for the inaugural Mass.
11: 28am – The inaugural mass begins. The mass is going to be led by Pope Francis himself.
11:30am – Pope Francis is currently praying at the Tomb of St. Peter. After praying, the Pope is expected to begin the mass.
11:59am – The first reading is taken from the book of 2 Samuel.
