The police have boosted security in the city with more 10,000 CCTV cameras. The cameras will top on those government procured during CHOGM.

This was revealed by the Deputy Police Spokesperson Vincent Ssekate on Sunday .Ssekate said that police have issued a notice to all Banks to install CCTV cameras in ATMs to monitor fraud in banks .He says that these will be linked to the police monitoring unit for easy surveillance of the city.

He cited the recent incident where four Bulgarian nationals were arrested trying to steal money from anĀ  ATM machine in Natete .He noted that if there were cameras installed and linked to the police offices ,the crime would have been detected in time.

Besides ATMs, police cameras will be installed on Highways, crowded places, government buildings and common crime spots. Cameras in these areas will as well be linked to the police ICT monitoring rooms.

Ssekate added that cameras on highways will also be in position to identify number plates .This will help police track over speeding drivers.
