The Minister of Justice and Constitutional Affairs Kahinda Otafire has attacked churches over the marriage and Divorce Bill.
Speaking to journalists at parliament on Wednesday , Otafire said that churches don’t legislate, their work is to preach the word of GOD.
Otafire’s attack on churches came after churches denounced the bill saying that it is not necessary.
He noted that the bill is necessary because married partners are suffering and they need a law to protect them.
“Women face injustices most especially in rural areas. We need to legislate for the society as it is not as it should be. Those who say that the bill is not needed, should produce scientific investigations” Minister Otafire said
He further urged government to do more consultations about the bill adding that democracy is needed in families. He also said that the bill has been in shelf for long time and should be worked on to protect the women who always face injustices in marriage.
Otafire reminded the leaders how churches came out and denounced family planning at its inception and it is still is in existence .
Yesterday the former minister of ethics and integrity Maria Matembe also attacked religious leaders over the same bill.
