The NRM rebel MPs, Barnabas Tinkasiimire (Buyaga West), Wilfred Niwagaba (Ndorwa East), Theodore Ssekikubo (Lwemiyaga County), Mohammed Nsereko (Kampala Central), and Vincent Kyamadidi (Rwampara County) have vowed not to appear at the disciplinary committee today.
The MPs, who are known to be out spoken about the faults of the ruling party, National Resistance Army (NRM) were called to the party’s disciplinary committee today to answer to several accusations including criticizing the NRM top party leadership and taking positions contrary to those of the party.
However, the MPs have said they will not appear at any committee today becuase they did not receive any official letter inviting them to appear at the disciplinary committee. Mr. Niwagaba said he wrote to parliament last week asking them to write an official letter summoning them to the committee but did not receive any response and because of that, they will not appear at the committee.
Mr. Ssekikubo said he will not appear because he cannot be summoned to the committee through newspapers. “It is demeaning to call me through newspapers. I am going to continue with my work and i am working right now. If they called me through newspapers, it shows they do not have good hearts,” he said.
On February 5th, NRM party Chief whip said the rebel MPs had to appear at the disciplinary committee in a week and file their defense in two weeks.
