By Jane Nambi

50 residents of Isingiro district have sued the environment protection organization in the country, National Environment Management Authority (NEMA) over evictions.

NEMA evicted some people in Isingiro a few days back. People say they were evacuated illegally and destroyed their property. Many farms, food crops and property was destroyed during the eviction during which NEMA officials said the residents were cultivating in land which did not belong to them.

However, residents say they want their land back and want NEMA to pay for the property they lost and time lost saying it was not good.

Evictions across the country have been going with many people evacuated, property destroyed by those evicting and police doing nothing. NEMA claims this is their right to evict them because they were in a swamp, something that most residents do not agree with.

They called onto the State Minister for lands, Aida Nantaba to help them fight their land wrangles.
