President Museveni is today set to meet the members of the ruling party, National Resistance Movement (NRM) to discuss the marriage and divorce bill which at the time is setting parliament on fire.
So far, two clauses have been approved in the bill. One of which is no bride price return in case the couple separates and a division of property after a divorce. At the moment, parliament is discussing the clause which allows women who have co-habited for over 10 years to be legally married, a clause which has been disapproved by many MPs and religious leaders in the country.
Meeting the president today, the MPs will discuss the bill and see which clauses should be accepted, changed or removed.
The marriage and divorce bill has been in parliament for some time with many men against it and women for it.
During the recently concluded Women’s Day celebrations which took place in Ngora sub-county, Speaker of Parliament, Rebecca Kadaga vowed to help the women in their fight in the marriage bill to see important clauses approved and bad ones removed.
