Makerere University students are today electing their new guild president .
The elections will take place at the university’s different collages and schools, according to Makerere Electoral Commission spokesperson,Geoffrey Kasumba.
Mr .Kasumba says that the campaigns were peaceful and the whole exercise is expected to be calm.Students at different collages seem to be interested in a female candidate ,Anna Adeke an FDC candidate who is running head to head with NRM’s Boniface Okot.
The NRM party has lost in Makerere University Guild Elections consecutively to other parties but it is still early to judge how it will perform in this 79th guild election.
In the campaigns which kicked off at the campus three weeks ago ,it was clear that students also want a leader who will be able to negotiate the 60 per cent tuition policy which the administration intends to implement this year. The policy has caused a number of strikes at the public university.
Other candidates in the race are Martin Ssegawa (DP), Ronald Wandera (CP) and independents Musa Byamaka, Martin Twinamasiko, Isaac Ssekkonge and Kokas Okello.
