Prices of maize flour have increased in Gulu town within 3 months as many traders complain of hiked maize seeds.

Maize flour is widely eaten in Uganda and in Gulu district more people prefer it to millet, the staple food.

This has become a common practice after the LRA war which ruined many staple foods such as Millet, sorghum, Potatoes among others.

James Omara, a maize flour trader in Cere-lenu market in Gulu says that this year the price of maize has gone up compared to last year.

Omara told Uganda Picks today that  most of the local farmers sell a cup of maize seeds ranging from 100 to 150 shillings.

He said that they have to buy a lot of maize seeds to get profit from selling the flour.

Santa Akello, another maize flour trader in Gulu town sells a kilo of maize flour at 1800 shillings from 1500.

Akello sells a small bag of 15kg at 27,000 shillings and 50Kg at 90,000 shillings.

Some traders talked to also said they prefer selling their maize flour to Southern Sudanese traders who pay them handsomely.
