Journalists under Human Rights Network for Journalists (HRNJ) have threatened to drag prison warders who beat journalists yesterday in Rakai district to court.
The HRNJ coordinator Wokulira Ssebaggala said that if the prison in Rakai fails to meet the medical bills of the tortured journalist and punish the warders who beat up the journalists while doing their professional work, HRNJ is going to drag them to court.
Two scribes were yesterday beaten thoroughly when they were trying to cover the prisoners who tried to escape.
The victims condemned the way police handled them while exercising their professionalism.
The torture of the two journalists John Bosco Mulyowa and Pasco Lutabi came after they learnt of the escape of 12 prisoners from Kalisizo government prison in Rakai .
The prisoners escaped from the government facility in broad day light on Tuesday. The prisoners escaped when the wardens had gone on a drinking spree in the nearby village.
The journalists learnt of the escape and stormed the prison from where they were terribly beaten by the prison wardens who became furious when police learnt of it. Their cameras were also broken in the attack.
