Mike Mukula, the former State Health Minister also Soroti Municipality MP was released on Wednesday after the Anti-Corruption Court cleared him of embezzling Shs210 million from the Gavi Fund.
Immediately after his release ,Mukula held a press conference outside court and narrated his experience in Luzira Prison .He began by thanking people who visited him in prison to give him a word of encouragement.Specifically he thanked his family members especially his wife Gladys Mukula ,his children relatives and friends who called on him.
He also expressed his appreciation to President Yoweri Museveni who gave him support to boost his legal team. Mukula recently received Shs100m from President Museveni as contribution to boost his legal process.
Mukula also hailed Teso leaders for being supportive during his stay in Luzira Prison.
Personally ,Mukula said that he has learnt a lot from prison .
“I have learnt so many things at Luzira. I am very strong. My back has not been broken. I am glad God has given me this golden opportunity to be with you,” said Mukula.
“The nights were long. But the sun has risen. No matter how long the dark nights can be there is always light at the end of the tunnel,” he added.
Mukula was admitted to ward B1 of Murchison Bay Prison, Luzira .He had been allocated a cubicle, which he shared with two other inmates. He was also allocated a prison number – MBP 148/2013 – and a yellow uniform.
