The first lady who also doubles as the minister in charge of Karamoja Affairs Janet Museveni will preside over the women’s Day celebrations in Nwoya district on Saturday 9th March.

According to the area MP Lilly Adong, Mrs Museveni has already confirmed her presence.

Hon Adong said that the women in Nwoya will use this opportunity to address their problems and challenges and other different issues affecting them to the first lady.

She said that among the challenges the women will address to the first lady include limited access to control over the natural, human, financial, physical and social resources and limited skills due to high illiteracy levels as reflected in the literacy rate of 66% for females compared to 79% for males.

The situation is worse in Nwoya with illiteracy rates standing at 74% males and 58% for female.

The international women’s Day will be official celebrated on Friday this week and the national celebrations will be held in Nakasongola district with the THEME the gender Agenda connecting grass root women to development.
