Forum for democratic change MPs have expressed dissatisfaction to police on the way it always arrests their former boss Kizza Besigye.
While addressing reporters at parliament on Thursday , FDC MPs led by the leader of the opposition Nandala Mafabi argued that in Uganda there is no any law which prohibits prominent persons like Kizza Besigye to use public means for transport.
Mafabi’s and FDC MPs reaction came after Besigye was Wednesday arrested for trying to use a tax to reach his office. The angry FDC MPs said that Dr Besigye is a human being like other people of which it is his right to use public transport.
“We are protesting in the strongest term the arrest of our boss. He has been arrested four times in a period of two days. He was arrested when he was going to attend court proceedings, he was also arrested when he was going to attend a public rally in Kawempe, and he was also arrested when he used a taxi to go to his office. He is a free man and is entitled to his freedom of rights. He is free to use public means because his vehicle was confiscated by police”Mafabi said
Mafabi further called upon the public to come out and demand justice for Col Besigye.
“Police is acting like mafias. It is used by the government to abuse the rights of individuals like Besigye. The public should immediately come out and condemn government behaviors on Col Besighye. We are tired of seeing police mistreating our boss. Police is going to force us also reacting unruly” Said the shadow youth MP Bernard Atiku
“The intention of arresting Besigye every time by the government is to kill him. We want Mr President with his government to leave Besigye alone and enjoy his rights. We shall also make this country small for them if they continue to abuse the rights of our boss” Said Betty Anywar MP Kitgum district
“We are going to mobilize the public and deal with police accordingly.” She added
