Father Musaala Suspended Over Marriage of Priests Proposal

Father Anthony Musaala has been suspended from church service following his advocacy concerning the marriage of catholic fathers.

Kampala Archbishop Cyprian Lwanga in a statement issued on Tuesday aid that he was firing fr Anthony Musaala for publishing a document that brings the Catholic church in disrepute.The archbishop said that father Musaala’s letter to Bishops ,Priest and the laity was damaging the morals of the catholic church and faulting God’s gift of celibacy.

The document father Musaale wrote and has widely been distributed was reportedly condemning celibacy arguing that catholic priests have ended up having children in secrecy because of the vow which limits them to marry and have children.

In the document Anthony Musaala pointed out a few fathers who have children and the church does not know about it.

However in his defense ,Father Musaala says that his document was a proposal meant to help clear the image of the church concerning the marriage of catholic priests.

He said that he was surprised to see that someone he gave the document for review before it is taken to the archbishop betrayed him and handed it over without any scrutiny.

Archbishop Lwanga has threatened that all the fathers mentioned in the document and pinned for having children are going to be investigated.

“People of God ,I deeply think of the immense suffering caused by the article produced in the media authored by father Musaala ,that seemed to be casting a shadow of suspicion on all priests” Father Lwanga said in the statement

Father Musaala who spreads the gospel through singing noted that he was receiving a lot of complaints from the public on the matter and decided to do something about it.

I agree with him on one part only. Some people have a calling to serve the Lord but not to be celibate. They should have a section which allows them to serve the Lord the way they want without being celibate.

Just know in Church there is a lot of options to serve the lord. its not necessarily that its only through priesthood we serve the lord or spread the Gospel, even married couples have their positions in the church. if you can't handle the conditions of priesthood then you take the marriage vocation.

Be serious homosexuality cuts a cross religions and marital status. many married people are said to be practicing it, even some do it to their own spouses the married. By the way to become a priest you are not forced nor seduced. its a free will after understanding the conditions. its like you deciding to get married and wedded to some one no one forces you after clearly understanding your role in the family, many who can't a accommodate the marriage status remain single.

he does hav a very strong point,even the pope has a woman and family in his life,true ,lets stop the double standards while blindfolding the congregation who will be forced into practicing what you dont preach.

The most annoying thing prior to these men of God do is to give a promise before God en congregation they serve about how they will live a celibate life yet they do things secretly.That is so wrong in my view and most if not all human beings have feelings by nature unless there is a bodily disorder.Father Musala should be allowed to serve God and even there needs to be a complete reform or amendment in relation to the catholic doctrinal beliefs because most of them are very wrong.For example, why do they have to pray to statues yet in the Bible, 1st commandment Deuteronomy 6:13-14 its says Honour the Lord your God, worship only him, and make your promises in his name alone.Do not worship other gods, any of the gods of the peoples around you. Fr Musaala, go ahead than walking away like other catholics hehe.

The fact is that priests spend considerable time learning the doctrines of the church, where you can with draw at any time before you make the final vow. you are given enough time to prepare and think of what is expected of you. its right there are priests who have children those are the ones who went astray. may be the proposal should be allowing those priest with children change their vacation. to maintain the dignity of the catholic church.

@Martin Yossa, Catholics dont pray to statues. Get this clearly, we Catholics pray to God directly, or through intercession of Saints including our Mother Mary. Having a reverence for a statue for example of Mother Mary in the Church, does not equal to Worshiping it. It is like having a picture of your President or friend in ur sitting room, and u know this is ur friends pic. U may touch it, keep it safe etc. Now the context of Deuteronomy 6:13-14, is quite different.Some Israelite s had turned away from God when faced with challenges, and had instead made statues like a bull, to worship it as god, and that's how the law came up.For the issue of Fr Musala,the content of his document may be right or wrong, but first of all i feel his approach is not the best !! and even marriage as an institution has so many challenges- we see married couples cheating left and right, should we say marriage as a holy institution should be left optional or abolished ?? i suggest we dont subject people to Judgments here !!! God calls His Priests knowing their strength and weak points !!! We simply pray for them. "Let Him who has never sinned, be the first to throw a stone".

he wrote to the arch Bishop,and the letter was confidential someone leaked it to the press. Fr. Musaala had no intention of writing to the press about this.

We all knw that Fathers are human too but everybody shd knw before swearing the oath of the implications involved. No body is forced to be.... All should respect the institution procedure. If not, they may quit... Lets all believe what shall help us get to heaven than criticizing or following humans! If Father Musaala wants to marry, let him do so and preach his gospel out of the catholic church. Its an Institution with rules and procedures! PERIOD

but those rules and laws are not made by God but human beings,so why cant there be reforms?? Jesus christ showed us how not be slaves to law by going against the sabbath law...so why dont the Catholics listen to Father Musalaz plea??? we have to correct our ways and repent of our evil manners while still on earth otherwise,we are wasting our time dreaming of heaven...............praise God!!!

Father Musaala is very rite on dat matter....dats a law made by man en it can be reformed, y should these priests sleep arnd with secular pipo if they r so "holy". staying celibate doesn't give one an automatic gate pass 2 heaven, but being righteous en doing what the bible instructs us 2 do makes us purier dan any persn. am behind Father Musaala on dis one.

we should all pray for father musaala bse its the devil using him to distablize our catholic church, if he wants to marry, why did he choose priesthood? let him quit and leave our church in peace.

@Samantha Kantinti,I agree with you that celibacy is not an automatic gate to heaven and all of us have to be righteous..but why assume that marriage is the solution to unrighteousness.Neither celibacy nor marriage is an automatic gate to holiness and heaven .Being righteous is a continuous process every one has to work on each and every day.Fr Musaala should know that better from his counseling experience.Married people too get into fidelity issues!!!

No body is forced or coerced to join celibacy. It is always out of their free will. How then can someone make a life long commitment without being mindful of the principles he is required to adhere to? Fr. Musaala should come clear on this. If he cant put up with celibacy no more, let him say it other than criticizing the values and principles of the church that have brought him this far. He should be aware of the repercussions of his acts.

proper authorities should be used, I don't think that he had given his letter for review to proper authorities. Its like giving a monkey to judge the case of a forest, by any way it will be in its favour. may be fr. musaala gave his letter to a wrong person.

The catholic church has strong foundation, principles and constitutuion on which it was built. its clearly spelt priests should not marry either involve in any immoral behaviours. this is vocation if you can not comply you leave other than tanishing the institution. I request BISHOP LWANGA to make follow up on all priests alleged iam sure musaala is not alone they are many. I think musaala would have been fired in 2009. the bishop took long to make decission.

Well perhaps The Reverend Father used a wrong approach to communicate the truth. Facts should be faced. Its very true 100% that some priests have concubines, children and use sisters for wives. The church and even the vatican is aware. Firing the Father will not stop such sins. Let the church carry out investigations.

The catholic church is facing alot of scrutiny and disorder, and we as the church should be the first 2 clear this. We need 2 purify the church starting with the clergy.
