A Mukono philanthropist renowned for resettling street children Rev.Dr. Kefa Sempangi has taken on child headed families and is planning to assist them to become self-sustaining through agro-production for subsistence and as an income earning venture.

Speaking to the press at  his home at Wantoni in Mukono Central Division, the aging former Rehabilitation Deputy Minister in Obote II government said he started handling such families three years ago in Ntanzi parish, Ntenjeru sub-county.

“We have so far helped over forty  families using a revolving fund with amounts to families depending on their  sizes, and the money is passed on to another family after the original one has generated reasonable capacity to continue on their own”, Dr. Sempangi said, adding that the Presbyterian Church in Uganda and its foreign friends contribute the capital.

He said he switched to helping  child headed families after realising that street children re-united with their families often inherit families with no providers, thus opting to other difficlt  means of survival.

He said, “In the three years we have been in operation, we have also organised high profile family sensitisation meetings to end domestic violence which is a major contributor to multiplying child-headed families in the country, plus rational use of money generated from agricultural produce”, Dr. Sempangi said.
